I’m currently looking back at my Spotify seeing what I was boppin because I’m having a total brain fart. I plan on doing these weekly so I’m going to start with the statistics aka what I technically listened to the most according to Spotify (top 5) and then honorable mentions which are the songs I feel stuck with me even if they’re not on the list(2-3). Hopefully you come out of this with a new song added to your rotation, although that’s not the goal, I just like talking about my music.
No. 5 on the list we have Who Loves The Sun by Nu, Jo. Ke. This song is more newly discovered find for me and it hitssss. It’s a very unique sound and it’s something I’ve almost never heard before. It could probably be categorized as techno. It’s obviously got a beat to it, but I would say most of it is made up of like sounds in a way. Like rustling through a bag of chips, voice noises that aren’t purposeful, the singing is like echo-y, and it just feels very summer to me. If I’m being really honest, the song to me feels like eating a crisp apple. I know that sounds so weird but in a way it’s like that satisfying dopamine you get from the sound of biting down, with the crunch and flavor of the juices, and as you chew it gets deconstructed. That whole process of eating a crisp apple is this song. I’m weird as fuck by the way in the way I think about some music. Next we have No. 4, Love Galore (Alt Version) by SZA. Listen You guys. I DON’T PLAY ABOUT MY GIRL SZA. Like I just need to give you that base layer kind of info from me. I’m not lying I can go ON, when it comes to her I DON’T PLAY. This women, goddess, whatever, she is a poet. She is not just an artist to me, not a singer. This queen is a poet. Moving on lol. This song through and through and whichever version honestly because there’s two main ones but any version, is the first song I came to appreciate of hers and what introduced me to her. It was my introduction to her album CTRL which is actually one of my top three albums and can arguably be number one. I have been not just bumpin, but blasting this banger since 2020. It’s just perfect. No Notes. I feel like the stories that come with this album is it’s own separate Category, literally not even post, but Category bitch. You may be asking what made me reach for the alt version this week. I think I was feeling myself or just extra empowered lol in a way this week and the alt version replaces Travis Scott from the original song to SZA during the rap verse. In this verse she’s basically like I don’t need no man, I’m thriving just fine. Which like period. I mean come on. Next on the list is No. 3 Never Lose Me by Flo Milli, SZA, Cardi B. This song honestly just lit. I was feeling myself clearly. I remember why I started listening to it this week and it’s because I used to listen to it a lot like it was part of my daily rotation and then you know how some songs just randomly disappear or for some reason you just stop listening. That was me with this song, but I brought it back and I was gettin down. No. 2 this week is Me & The Rhythm by Selena Gomez. I actually rediscovered this song like a week ago after literally ten years. This song is the biggest throwback to me in fifth grade lmaoo. Even then I don’t think it was that popular, but this whole album by Selena Gomez was kind of slept on. This song just sounds so pop and it’s just a chill head bop you know. I don’t think she has other songs like this either and I’ve always been drawn to a good beat. Although it’s a basic pop kind of beat, it’s still a banger. This was like her seductive girl boss area. Jelena forever though. I wouldn’t be surprised if I bopped to this later in the car and it feels so summer too which I love. Now drumroll for No. 1……………… It is Little Bit by Drake, Lykke Li. Surprisingly enough, I know this song is older, but I just discovered it for the first time last week. I instantly fell in love. Now for some reason this song makes me feel like New York City. And let me tell you I’ve only been there once, for like a week in 2021. Do I dream of living there one day: Yes. Anyways, the vibe I don’t know it just feels like a night on the town for me. Driving or walking it doesn’t matter it just sounds like a city of carelessness. Kind of rebellious and ethereal. I don’t care what the songs about honestly, it’s not like dumb either. Like if it had the same beats or rhythm but dumb ass lyrics I would be like nah, but it’s fine. I have a lot of different playlists too and one is dedicated to that feeling of NYC and shocker, this song is in it. Didn’t stand a chance of just letting it be any song I just casually listen to. I am surprised to see it at number one though. I didn’t realize I was inhaling it into my ear drums like that.
To start off the Honorable mentions I have STAY by Fisher. This song just bangs. It’s already in my house playlist on Spotify, but I don’t listen to it that often so when I heard it in my pilates class yesterday I was like alright I’m bumpin this on the way home. And surely enough I put it on repeat like I kid you not five times. I just imagine myself at a festival with this song and I’m just high on life just feeling the music. This song I can feel in my chest. Like it just feels like I’m levitating. That’s why I NEED to go to the HeadTrip festival this year. The most sick lineup ever. And although I just started bumpin this song yesterday IT STILL COUNTS for this week. You don’t make the rules I DO. Anyways, I am going to combine two songs here and count is as one because I enjoyed them in the same exact way. Very drag, very Camp if you say. They are yes, and? by Ariana Grande and Applause by Lady Gaga. These bangers just make me wanna vogue. Like I’m in drag really gettin down. Which I’ve never done, but extend the invite. I just love the dance that comes out of me with these. The femininity with feeling like the moment and honestly being in the moment. Last but not least we have Midnight Sun by Zara Larsson. A beautiful new friend put me on to this song and it truly makes me feel like a cutesy butterfly dolphin (yes, combined) swimming and frolicking through the ocean sun singing. Wow I’ve been really in my pop era recently. This song is just so fun and sweet. The song looks and yes Looks like those coloring books that were called like Franky or something, like that, you know what I mean. I sing this song to the top of my lungs and Zara’s vocals go absolutely crazy in this song too. What an icon and so incredibly slept on. One of my besties was explaining to me the other day that she could be considered a newer like artist for the gays and like drag. Put her in with Ari, Gaga, Azelia, etc. If you know, you know. If you want to feel like a glitter hibiscus, listen to this song for sure.
Thank you for reading my rambles. Again, this is all my opinion and may not be your cup of tea a lot of the times. To me they’re bangers, AND I KNOW BANGERS. I hope throughout this you see the range of my music taste too, because it’s a wide spectrum and very much random. If anyone at all reads this though and is interested in my playlists or something, lmk. Peace.
